Science and technology has greatly improved the life of so many people. In medicine, this has brought about the production of many useful drugs. There are now all sorts of drugs that can be used on diseases, symptoms, and for producing a reaction. However, you can still find people that prefer to use organic ingredients like spice over drugs. The reason for this is due to the health benefits of spices.

Spices come in so many kinds. A spice can have one or even two medicinal properties similar to what some drugs have. It is just an ingredient used for enhancing the flavor and aroma of a dish. One property that can be found among many these plants would be the antibacterial property. Since time immemorial people have been using garlic, onion, peppermint, oregano, and thyme as a cure for certain infections.

You can also find some plants that are highly recommended for managing cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure. A spice can also be an ingredient that can help people with diabetes and hypertension. Just some of the ingredients that can do these are turmeric, chives, onion, bay leaf, and cinnamon.

There are also some plants that are taken in order to help with a person's digestion. For example, thyme and sage are great for easy digestion of fatty foods. Coriander is good for preventing gas. For indigestion, you can make use of peppermint, peppercorns, and turmeric to feel better.

You also have spices that have the special ability to prevent certain diseases from happening. According to studies, basil can help prevent asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Orange peel is rich in vitamin C making it good against colds and scurvy. Many believe the chili pepper is a wonder spice against prostate cancer and ulcer.

A spice may also contain substances like vitamins A and E. An antioxidant helps keep the cells healthy against the effects of oxidation reactions. Thyme, oregano, dill weed, basil, peppermint, parsley, and turmeric are considered as natural antioxidants that you can take if you do not want to take tablets or pills.

Diuretic property is one more example of a property that you can find in a spice. Diuretics are widely used by doctors for patients that need to get rid of excess fluids. This is common among cases involving kidney problems. Three examples of a spice with this kind of property would be the anise star, cilantro, and garlic.

There are different advantages to using a spice over drugs and other synthetic compounds. One of them is that there are lesser side effects since a spice is organic. Another advantage is that there are many ways that you can use a spice. These ingredients can just be incorporated in most of your dishes or in the beverages that you drink like juices, teas, milk, shakes, and smoothies.

Other than the health benefits of spices stated above, many benefits have not been mentioned. If you want to stay healthy, having a spice garden would be beneficial. This is a cheap way that you can take good care of your body.
